Selection of valedictorian and salutatorian will be based on high academic achievement and school involvement. Full time students with an average ≥ 90% at the end of first semester of grade 12 will be selected. The academic average will include the following courses taken in grade 11 and 12:

  • English 11
  • English 12
  • Math Foundations
  • Any 2 of: Chemistry 11, Biology 11, or Physics 11
  • Three other academic courses (excluding co-op)
  • Two elective courses with the highest grade (excluding co-op)

Students will also be asked to defend their valedictory selection by composing an essay highlighting their involvement in extra-curricular activities and volunteer service both in and out of school.  The committee, which will include administration, guidance, grad class advisors and two teachers of grade 12, will be assembled to select the two most well-rounded students from the applicants – one as valedictorian and the other salutatorian. The decision of the committee will be unanimous and final. Any teacher or administrator with a child in the graduation class will not be eligible to sit on this committee.
