Tobique Valley High School Dress Code

Tobique Valley High School is an educational institution and, as such, functions as a workplace for all members of its community. All students are required to dress in a manner that is neat, clean, safe, and appropriate while attending school, participating in school functions, or representing the school.

Inappropriate attire includes, but is not limited to: clothing that exposes undergarments; clothing displaying or promoting drugs, alcohol, profanity, sexual content, or racism; and garments such as shorts, skirts, or tops that are excessively revealing, including those that expose the midriff or excessive cleavage.

Students wearing inappropriate attire will be required to correct the violation and may be directed to change or leave the school if necessary.

Dress Code Violations: Procedures and Consequences

Where a student is identified as being in violation of the dress code, the student will be provided with reasonable opportunity to remedy the situation. Acceptable corrective actions include, but are not limited to:

  • Adjusting the clothing to bring it into compliance;
  • Changing into alternative, appropriate clothing;
  • Contacting a parent/guardian to arrange for suitable clothing to be delivered to the school;
  • Temporarily wearing clothing provided by the school, where available;
  • Surrendering the non-compliant item to the office for the remainder of the school day.

Should a student refuse to comply with the above corrective options, the student will be required to contact a parent/guardian and may be dismissed from school premises. The student may return once they are in compliance with the dress code.

A student will not be suspended solely for a dress code violation. However, refusal to comply with staff direction, or repeated instances of non-compliance, will be addressed in accordance with ASD-W Policy 703-8 and/or 703-9, and may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension, as outlined within those policies.
