The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Nicole Cooper.

The agenda was approved by Amy Parks and seconded by Emily Shirley.

Business Arising From The Minutes
• None

Report from Solanna MacDonald (Student Rep)
• Public Health Nurses were here on October 4th to give Immunizations to the students in grades 7 and 9.
• On October 18th, Science East from Fredericton came to do a Solar System Presentation to students in grades 6, 7, 8 and 9.
• We had a Halloween assembly with costumes on October 31st. Students enjoyed the fun.
• November 1st – the middle school students in grades 6-8 enjoyed a school dance.
• The students participated in a Remembrance Day Ceremony with the veterans in attendance. The cadet band was also part of the ceremony with their steady beat for marching and O’Canada.

Principal’s Report
• September 27th – A Shad Valley Representative presented to students in Grades 9, 10 and 11 in the Lecture Theater about STEAM and an approach to Design Thinking.
• We have a new projector in the Lecture Theater which will greatly improve presentations.
• On November 17th a bus took twenty-four students in grades 11 and 12 to an open house at NBCC in Woodstock. A couple of students used their own transportation and went to visit NBCC Miramichi.
• Essential Skills – Mr. Green and Mrs. Rasmussen spoke to the grade 10 students outlining the Essential Skills course. If a student is chosen through the interview process, they will be starting Semester 2.
• An Essential Skills open house was set up for students and parents as an information session.
• TVHS is part of the Healthy Lifestyles Committee (Dietitian, Danny Braun, Child & Youth Advocate, Mrs. Fillmore at TVHS and Mrs. Harding at DFMS which involved students in grades K-2. A plan was set up for those students to be bussed to TVHS during the month of November and for four weeks on each Tuesday they participated in the following sessions that were organized the students from the Essential Skills Class. Bingo (organized by Zander); gym, snacks, kindness, anti-bulling (organized by Nick); arts/crafts (organized by Kalista). Students were awarded prizes which added to their excitement.
• A suggested came up for next year’s plans that the BINGO have pictures NOT numbers as some of the students didn’t know their numbers.
• The next group of the Healthy Lifestyles is students in grades 3-5. Danny Braun will organize with this group and DFMS.
• High School Report Cards were distributed on November 20th with Parent/Teacher Interviews scheduled for Thursday, November 23rd 4:00pm – 6:30pm and Friday, November 24th from 9:00am – 12:00 noon.
• November 22nd was scheduled for Picture Retakes and Grad Photos through Harvey Studios.
• November 30th – Andy’s Presentations (Andy Thibodeau) was here to engage our students in an assembly as a motivational speaker, after which he worked with several senior students in a smaller group setting.
• School Improvement Plan – Goal 1 is to increase school connectedness and prioritize relationships. Our main focus is on student and community engagement.
• Mrs. Fillmore attended a 4DX Training on November 27th. Franklin Covey advised principals to make sure their goals are suited for their school and what strategies that can be used for our school. There were 3 sessions online with a personal coach to work with our school/goals.
• Teacher Perceptions Surveys were completed on November 7th
• Student Surveys were completed on November 6th – 10th. The results of these surveys are used to plan the School Improvement Plan.
• Mme. Bosse’s Pride Group has organized a school Food Drive with items going to the Food Locker and the Food Bank.
• Middle School Report Cards will be distributed on December 4th with Parent Teacher Interviews scheduled for Thursday, December 7th , 4:00pm – 6:30pm and Friday, December 8th from 9:00am – 12:00 noon.
• December 8th – No middle school students.
• Mrs. Rasmussen has taken a few students to the Grand Falls Spa and a trip to Moncton Mendes to give those students an idea of what this career choice would look like.
• Mrs. Legace’s Pride Group have organized many fun activities for the month of December.
-There will be a Christmas tree set up in the Cafeteria.
-Each Pride Group will decorate their own Christmas tree in their classroom
-Will use boxes to build gingerbread houses
-There will be an Open House for the public to tour the Pride Rooms
-Students to check the calendar for Theme Days
-There will be a ‘Chocolate Bar Bingo’. Students who participate are to bring in a chocolate bar.
-December 12th – A bus had been booked to take middle school students to the arena for an afternoon of skating. Helmets are required.
-A middle school dance has been planned.
-A Craft Market has been organized by a Personal Interest Group (Keisha Finnamore, Claire Beveridge, Breanna Witherly and Olivia Cooper) to be held on Saturday, December 9th in the Cafeteria.
-The December Calendar is now posted on the Facebook page.
• Nick DeLeavey is to play guitar for the assembly.
• Fundraiser: Draw ‘n Paw – Plans to raise $1000.00 for student initiatives. Every student involved in a sport is asked to sell 1 ticket as part of their Sports Fundraiser donation. Will need an update on how many squares are left.
• Hoodies/sweatshirts/etc for Sports -students will have to buy their own and personalize as they wish. The clothing sales will be in January and will be purchased from Merritt Press.

New Business
• An invitation is extended to a public DEC meeting at Southern Victoria High School on December14th at 6:30pm. The public can ask questions at the end of the meeting.
• SVHS altered their school time starting at 8:45am and ending at 3:30pm Administration was hoping this change would help with attendance.
